After lots of consideration and analysing of the stimuli I
have chosen one to use as inspiration for my solo. For my final choreography
piece I have decided to use the stimulus of the human as I was able to analyse
it the most. Additionally I found many different interpretations as to what the
meaning could be behind the image, which I discussed on my blog last week.
Furthermore the image has links to Alzheimer’s and Dementia, the idea that the
male has lost his memory. Moreover the image also portrays the idea of living
with depression as his head is empty, implying that he’s mentally struggling.
Both of these illnesses are very sensitive and serious therefore I believe that
I can include many emotions into my routine with the main idea of fighting with
my mind. I will attempt to portray negative feeling in my dancing like
depression, frustration, sadness and fear. As well as positive ones to present
the idea of recovering from the illness, for example; hopefulness,
determination, positivity and courage.
In addition to this,
by portraying both positive and negative emotions it will create the idea that
living with these illnesses is like a roller coaster and there are always good
and bad days. I will show the juxtaposing feelings by using different levels
and both low and high energy movements.
I am going to incorporate some choreographic devices I’ve
learnt into my routine. I will use reverse, repetition, embellishment,
improvisation around a theme and highlight.
I then went on to have think about possible movements I
could include in my routine to fit with the theme, I think I will include lots
of different levels in order to imply the feeling of fighting with my mind.
Furthermore I may also include some intricate hand movements, for example
covering my eyes to present the idea of having no vision and also a head roll
whilst having my hands either side of my head to imply a mental health illness.
My aim was to find a piece of music which has different
dynamics so then I can continue the idea in my dancing and include both low and
high energy movements. I have come to the decision that I will choreograph my
solo to ‘In my blood’ by Shawn Mendes as the main theme of this song is
struggling mentally and feeling alone. Additionally, he frequently states about
not giving up showing that he wants to recover. As well as the lyrics fitting
in well to my chosen stimulus, I also like the way the songs dynamics continuously
change, therefore meaning that I can include both fast and slow parts into my
routine.

You have clearly thought about the emotions that you want to portray from your chosen stimulus and have related this well to your idea about mental illness. Why did you choose these choreographic devices in particular? Your reasons for choosing your music link back well to your ideas for your choreography.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Daisy. I will be using the choreographic device of reverse to show that your metal state may improve but then can also reverse back to a bad state. I will be using the choreographic device of repetition to show the ongoing fight of living with mental health illness, but also to express the determination to recover. Then I will use the others to make my routine more interesting.
DeleteYour blog is set out very well, and I like how you have expanded what you are trying to portray. Maybe add a diagram of your chosen stimulus to help the audience understand what your are trying to communicate. Furthermore, I really enjoyed seeing how you have linked it with your music like Daisy was saying.
ReplyDeleteWhat decision led you to pick this certain stimuli?
Overall, this blog is very detailed and I can see how much your blogs have improved over the weeks.
Thank you for your comment Lucy. I have taken on board your feedback, and have now added an image of my chosen stimulus. I picked this stimulus for many reasons, but mainly because I found it the easiest to interpret and I feel like I will be able to express this stimulus quite well through my dancing. Also I found the image rather interesting due to the many different ways you could interpret it.
DeleteI love how you have picked a piece of music which links to your idea. I also like how you have planned the choreographic devices you are going to use. Have you chosen these for any specific reason? If so why?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. Yes I chose some of the choreographic devices specifically so I could link them to my chosen stimulus. For example, I will be using the choreographic device of reverse to show that your mental state may improve but then can also reverse back to a bad state. I will be using the choreographic device of repetition to show the ongoing fight of living with mental health illness, but also to express the determination to recover. Then I will use the others to make my routine more interesting.
DeleteThis blog is very clear and set out really well. I like the idea of using memory loss within your piece, what choreographic devices would you use in your piece to portray this?
ReplyDeleteI will be using the choreographic devices of reverse and repetition to portray the idea of living with a mental health illness, in particular depression.
DeleteI like how you have thought to include different diseases from your chosen stimuli, but wondered whether there were any specific movements that you include to portray these?
ReplyDeleteThe focus of my routine is to portray a mental health illness. Therefore in my routine I will be including movements like head rolls with my palms either side to imply that I am suffering mentally. Additionally, at times I will do floor work involving being curled up on the floor to further imply this.
Deleteyou have set out your blog really well and you have made many interesting points around your thoughts and ideas for your final piece.
ReplyDeleteI also like the fact that you have began to think about what movements and dynamics you may include within in your work to relate to your chosen stimuli.
what choreographic devices do you feel you will use within your piece ?
overall I really enjoyed reading upon your ideas for your final piece and I look forward to seeing how it will turn out.
Thank you very much for your comment Rosabella. In my choreography piece I will be including the following choreographic devices: reverse, repetition, embellishment, improvisation around a theme and highlight.
DeleteI really like how you've thought about the different emotions that your going to portray in your piece and chosen some choreographic devices that your going to include in your piece. Are you maybe going to use any of the creative tasks as inspiration when in the process of creating your piece? If so which one and why?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Hannah. I think that I will incorporate the creative task of spelling out our names through our movements in my choreography. And instead of spelling out my name I will spell out 'Depression'. I will do this as it will further imply my stimulus, additionally I really enjoyed this creative task.
DeleteYou have adequately answered all of the questions that had been set in the task; you have gone into detail describing what movements and choreographic devices you will incorporate and how these will enhance your piece. For further development, you should consider how you will structure your solo and further discuss what you hope to achieve through your piece. How will your research affect your movement development?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment and advice. I am planning on structuring my solo in the way of continuously changing levels. In attempt to imply that living with a mental health illness has its good and bad days and both positive and negative emotions. In my solo I hope to evoke the idea of living with a mental health illness, in particular depression. My research into the choreographer Justin Peck, will affect my movement development in that I will be incorporating some of his movements into my choreography. Additionally, my further research into mental health will have a positive impact on my solo, as it will enable me to express the feelings of living depression through my movements more accurately. It will mean my movements will further imply the overall idea of mental health.
